Inspired by the Ladies Home Journal from 1958 I decided to alter the collar and skirt from Vogue Pattern 1171 slightly and Voilà my ‘sophisticated city dress’ was created.
Now it wouldn´t be me if I would just copy a dress I saw in a vintage magazine.
This great photo was just a starting point for my creative progress.
Unfortunately for you this gorgeous and highly recommended pattern is out of print but I have seen it on Etsy and eBay a lot so you can still get a copy I would assume.
Pattern: Vogue 1171
Fabric: 100% white cotton and 100% cotton polka dot small black/white (bought from stoffe.de)
- cover buttons from prym 24“ / 15mm
- Gütermann Col. 000 black
- Gütermann Col.800 white
- Petersham Ribbon black
- Hook and Bar
- Edge tape interfacing
- Arm shields white
- Buckle Kit
- Cotton batist fusible interfacing
Sewing Time: 2 afternoons
Modifications: FBA, dirndl skirt and rounded collar points
Fit: Like a Glove
Difficulty: easy imho
Watch out for ( view B) : The pattern doesn´t ask for interfacing your upper collar which I recommend. Also cut away 1/8“ from your under collar for a nicer drape.
Make again? Yes please. I love this great pattern with opportunities for casual day dresses or elegant afternoon / evening dresses.
Thank you so much for reading about my new dress. Best wishes, Anna
